What We Don't Do

Like all services, our practice has limitations—whether due to resources, ethical guidelines, or alignment with our values. Below is a summary of common requests we receive that fall outside our current scope of service. We share this not to close the door, but to create transparency and protect the integrity of the work we do offer.

Below is a compilation of the most common requests we receive for services we don't provide for:

  • Children

  • Adults

  • Other therapists

For Children

Below are some of the most frequently requested services that we don't provide for children. â€‹

Online Therapy for Children Under 10
We generally do not offer online therapy for children under 10, as building safety, focus, and rapport can be challenging remotely. Exceptions may be made if therapy is primarily in-person and the child is traveling.

Psychoeducational Assessments

Although we have the training, we don’t currently offer psychoeducational assessments for children due to the complexities of accessing appropriate and norm-referenced tools for English-speaking children in Mexico. We recommend having assessments completed in your country of origin when possible.

Speech Therapy

Our team does not include speech therapists. For high-quality services, we recommend Communicate with Kate: Speech Therapy Mexico https://www.speechtherapymexico.com

Reports/Letters for Court

We do not provide court reports of any kind, including those related to custody. This is specialised skill and requires an awareness of the countries family court laws; and additional training and experience in evaluations for custody.

At times, people will seek only therapy for their child and latter request a summary to be submitted to the court in order to support their case. We cannot do this as it provides a biased view with input from only one parent, and potentially input from the child that has been influenced by the parent seeking therapy.

We recommend seeking the services of a specialised  family court psychologist who can provide an objective evaluation (with equal input from both parents, and the child in a neutral environment). If we are providing therapy to your child we are happy to be contacted by the evaluating psychologist for providing our input.

Applied Behaviour Analysis Therapy

We do not offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. As a neuroaffirmative practice, we believe in supporting autistic children without seeking to “train out” neurodivergent behaviors. While modern ABA has largely removed the more abusive and dehumanising aspects it's practice, ABA does not align with our therapeutic values.

.

For Adults

Below are some of the most frequently requested services that we don't provide for children. â€‹

Psychiatry - medical prescriptions

We do not have any medical practitioners on our team and so unfortunately are unable to provide medical services including providing prescriptions for psychotropic medications.

Billing with Insurance (Except AFSPA)

Currently, we only offer direct billing through AFSPA. We understand this can be a limitation for some, and we hope to expand this in the future as our administrative capacity grows. At present, all other clients are asked to pay upfront and seek reimbursement from their insurance provider.

Reports/Letters for Court

We do not write court reports of any kind. Mostly commonly these are requested for custody. We do not have the training or skill set on the team to write forensic, custody or any other type of court reports.

Reduced Rates for more than 3 months

Each therapist reserves up to 20% of their caseload for reduced-fee clients. These spots are offered on a 3-month basis and are intended either for short-term therapy (e.g. a focused CBT program) or as temporary support during financial hardship.

Reduced-fee extensions are considered on a case-by-case basis, but we do not offer indefinite or permanent discounts. This ensures that more people can access support when they need it. Due to high demand, a waitlist may apply.

Importantly, ethical guidelines prevent us from offering discounted therapy unless a client can feasibly complete their treatment. For example, “discount packages” (e.g. 5 sessions at 50% off) are not permitted, as they may lead to unfinished treatment if the full fee becomes unaffordable. If your goals require longer-term therapy and our standard rates are beyond your budget, we recommend working with a therapist whose fees align with your financial circumstances from the outset.

Tolerate Hostile, Dismissive, or Abusive Behaviour

Sadly, this happens almost exclusively towards our administration team.

Disregarding messages, responding with insults, or accusing the admin team of harassment/aggression for politely following up on unpaid bills is not tolerated. If this occurs, all communication is shifted to the director (Jenna Mayhew) and therapy may be paused until respectful communication is restored.

Continued hostile, disregarding or abusive behaviour may result in termination of services. We value kindness, professionalism, and mutual respect—and expect the same from our clients in return.

For External Therapists

Offer private consultations on how to set up as a foreign therapist in Mexico

We no longer offer 1:1 consultations on how to set up as a foreign therapist. Instead, we’ve compiled everything we’ve learned in this free guide: Are you a Therapist Looking to Relocate: Your Guide to Visas and Licensing in Mexico

We also recommend joining our Therapy Book Club Facebook group for ongoing peer support and networking: Therapy Book Club on Facebook

Have coffees to discuss the possibility of working with us

This something that we could offer when things were at a smaller level, but sadly not anymore. Due to the volume of interest (often 300+ applicants per role), we only consider candidates who apply via our formal recruitment process. More information is available on our Join Our Team page.

Inviting outsiders to observe our sessions, team meetings, peer supervision etc.

To protect client confidentiality, we do not permit observation of sessions, supervision, or team meetings. Therapists visiting Mexico are warmly invited to connect via our book club community.
